It's going well so far, she's gonna get her way

Hello and welcome to my doll journal! This is my main account; you'll find all of my doll ramblings here. I've set up DW's x-posting feature to automatically add the posts I make here to my LiveJournal. I have two journals because while Dreamwidth has a superior interface, LiveJournal seems to be where all the active communities are. I usually check my LiveJournal friendpage daily for friend and community updates. Feel free to add me on either service, or both!

I have a couple online identities - you may know me as Sadie, or Laura, or Alex. All of these are acceptable (though Laura is my legal name and the one I use for my Etsy shop). I'm a doll enthusiast through and through, if you couldn't tell by the majority of my journal content. ;) If you're into Monster High, Moxie Teenz, and other various dolls and similar-type stuff go ahead and add me, I'll probably add you back. I'm also plural, but if you don't know what that means don't worry about it. I simply enjoy keeping company with fictional characters on a regular basis.

If I've bought something from you or you've bought something from me and you wish to leave feedback (and it wasn't an Etsy transaction), this post is fine. :) I'll unscreen it as soon as I get an email and leave it intact. If you'd like to see prior feedback, please click on the link to my Etsy shop Kittyden on the left-hand sidebar of this journal. It has my feedback as a buyer and a seller! Thank you for visiting! :)

Wow, LiveJournal's really changed since the last time I tried to use it. I'm glad I prefer Dreamwidth overall! It took me ten minutes to figure out how to send messages over there (and now there's a daily limit of like, ten), and another five minutes to figure out how to make a post!

I wonder if the site manages to crash every weekend still. ;)

Anyway, I still do stuff with dolls (still obsessed with Kurhn), spend way too much time on Tumblr, and still live in Maine (ugh).

I've been really into Flight Rising for the past year, so if you're a member on there shoot me a message! I'd love to add you. :)

I modified a Barbie dress for Maudlynne.

In white

She doesn't fit typical Barbie clothes, mind. This dress came from listing with several handmade items. I think it'd be really big on a Barbie, as it fits her perfectly. The snaps close nicely in the back.

White isn't really her color, but I think she enjoyed getting out of her red dress for a bit.

I'm going to buy her some Minifee clothes when I have money for them.

If you've been waiting for a sale to pick up Tonner's Maudlynne, this is it! :)

Kalli gifted me $6. I had to get her. *-*

She'll be my first Tonner doll!

Trigger warning: not for the dentally-squeamish.

A couple years ago someone (innocently, mind) asked why I didn't 'just sell some dolls' to cover the costs of a dental procedure.

Here's the thing:

I own like.. three 'collector edition' dolls. Besides those three, my collection is considered 'play-line' meaning, generally, they're not worth all that much. I might make roughly what I originally paid for them, but then again I might not. Chances are they'd sit on eBay as '$14.99 + $6.50 shipping' Buy-It-Now listings for weeks.

Never mind the hassle of boxing things up and getting them to the post.

So.. don't bother suggesting it, to me or any other doll enthusiast. True, there's other people out there with 'valuable' dolls, but their owners bought those dolls because they love them, not because they wanted them for resell value.

(And then there's the people who actually did buy them for resell value, which is an entirely different ballpark. Either way, don't judge.)

That said, I had one of my teeth decide to partially crumble away today. x.x It's not the first time this has happened, either! I was terribly unhealthy back in high school. I drank a ton of soda and brushed my teeth.. basically never. I flossed, but brushing's important too. (And the only reason I flossed was because I had a package of floss-picks in my desk drawer. I've maintained that habit, as it's one of the few beneficial things I consistently remember to do.)

I'll probably have to go to the dentist! The cheapest option will be having the tooth pulled. I'm stoked, can you tell? At least extractions aren't exorbitant around here. I might be looking at $80-ish.

Needles, drills, and yuck exist in my future. Thanks, high-school-me.
23rd-Mar-2014 03:36 pm - Story progression idea
teenythings: Beautiful artwork by Kazuko Taniguchi (Butterfly girl)

If I were to make a project (story-progression) for one of my dolls...

Who'd be interested in reading it?

I'll start out with just one doll (1/6th scale) because I tend to get overwhelmed with my projects, even if they're 'fun.' So, one doll initially, with occasional visits from other dolls.

Besides the fun aspect, I want to expand my photography skills, play around in photoshop, and write. Writers need to write things, and I haven't been doing nearly enough of that (outside of my English class, anyway). Who knows, it might even inspire me to get back into sewing!

Right, sound off!

Thanks to school pushing me beyond my capacity to deal, I got myself a doll.

I've wanted this Jasmine for ages, and I had $20 sitting in PayPal.

She'll arrive in the mail within a few days! I can't wait! :)

teenythings: Beautiful artwork by Kazuko Taniguchi (Darcy's trouble)
I feel like it's been ages since I've written anything in here...

Lots of stuff has been going on. I finally built my computer (mentioned in a prior entry), I'm still in school (only a few weeks left before registration opens up for spring), and I finally got some English budgies. I can't remember if I mentioned my budgies in this journal, but I've had various feathery faces since I was nine. It's been a long-term wish of mine to have some English budgies and they're even sweeter than I'd originally imagined.

Here's some pics. )

Alisha and I drove ten hours to get them. I already had Jenna, but getting these guys was a good move as far as she's concerned. She's much calmer than the American budgies and now has some friends more to her speed. I still need to research her original owner--she has a metal band that I should be able to trace her by. I can't remember if the people who partially traded her for a lovebird back when I lived in Colorado Springs said she was 1/4 American or what. She's a touch smaller than the English budgies, but quite a bit larger than the Americans. She's got the big feet and classic feather density, as well as the same eyes.

Jenna. )

I love her dark amber eyes. Her feathers make her face look a touch grouchy, but she's a sweet bird. :)

I miss doing doll things but all of my money (of late) has gone towards these feathery monsters. I'm hoping to breed each pair once a year and sell a few of their chicks. As far as I know, I'm the only person in Maine with more than a couple of these birds. (Rather, I'm sure other people have them, but I haven't seen any listings for anyone local rehoming chicks. The nearest place is Massachusetts, which is where I went to get these guys.)

Once the weather gets warmer I'm hoping to map out a custom semi-aviary with my landlord Steve. I won't be able to house them outdoors (and wouldn't want to, even if I could) but I'd love a large custom aviary that I could wheel in and out of the house. It'd be nice to sit them out in the sun during the warm months--I've got bulbs that imitate sunlight but nothing beats the real deal as far as birds are concerned. :)
23rd-Jan-2014 07:59 pm - Custom build!
teenythings: Beautiful artwork by Kazuko Taniguchi (It's only love)
I'm baaaack! I finally managed to get my computer built. It still needs its own RAM (I'm borrowing one of Kalli's 4gb cards) but it liiives. I made it from the following items:
* Apevia X-Dreamer 4: Pink case
* Asus P8Z77-V LK motherboard
* Intel Core i3-3220 Dual-Core processor
* Asus LED monitor (purchased first, actually, because the former was essentially junk)
* Corsair Builder Series CX 600 power supply

So yeah. It's up; I'm using it right now! I already had the keyboard/mouse/speakers on hand. Kalli solved the mystery of why shit wasn't running properly yesterday, though neither of us have managed to fix the motherboard's inability to recognize its LAN port. I think it might be dead, but everything else is so nice that I honestly can't be bothered with going through returns. Kalli loaned me her wireless card and since we've got a wireless router here in the room my internet speeds are perfect. I'm not using it for gaming. If I need a direct line I'll just use one of these.

In short: this is why I haven't been doing much with dolls lately. I needed to finish my custom build! (College, also.) Besides, I'm pleased that I got nearly every item on the above list for at least $20 less than it's currently listed for. I hit the after-Christmas sales. ;)
