Sitting across the bar, staring right at her prey
It's going well so far, she's gonna get her way

Kalli and I are doing the thing! We're finally having some dolls re-rooted! We're sending out Spectra and Toralei to Kristen tomorrow! Much squee!

I know I'd said I wanted to do it, but honestly.. after Spectra's lovely hair arrived in the mail, I couldn't bring myself to use her as my first attempt with saran. I didn't want to screw it up, especially considering one of the colors was listed as a limited edition.

If giftcash happens, we might send along a few more. I want Catrine to have black hair, as previously noted, and my poor Rochelles have been on the waiting list for almost as long as Spectra.

And then there's Operetta. *headdesk*

I was peeking around on eBay for something specific (which I found, and Kalli snagged, eee) but, besides the win, I noticed a lot of Monster High ads were mentioning variations of "doll in used condition, hair is weirdly sticky." It's about time the masses started catching on. Really, it's only taken them a few years. (Oh well, I guess.)
26th-Nov-2013 04:32 pm - A cleaning method!

Last night, completely at random, I decided I wasn't happy about the dingy appearance of my first Spectra's face. I remembered using some mild hand soap in the past to try and remove the dinginess with minimal success, so last night I figured what the heck and tried some exfoliating face-scrubbers on her. Huge difference! (I was very careful to avoid her eyes, eyebrows, and lips. I wasn't sure if the ingredients would strip the sealant and cause them to chip or worse.) She looks like new! Color me amazed. :D I wish I'd had the foresight to get a 'before' picture, but I suppose I can attach an 'after' in a minute here...
5th-Mar-2013 04:05 pm - DDG Spectra
teenythings: (Your smile)
DDG Spectra
I took these pictures while at SMCC in Portland. Alisha has classes there on Mondays and Wednesdays. For this photo Spectra's standing in one of the hallways - it's a close-up showing her face, mostly. Her hair's up in its original ponytail and her pink eyeshadow matches the pink tones in her gauzy dress.

After writing about my first Spectra vs. my second and the differences in their hair, I went on a Flickr-trawl to see if she was unique. To my intense gratification she isn't! DDG Spectra has the same sunlight/camera flash reactive hair.

DDG Spectra
I used my camera flash to create this effect - sunlight does the same thing. Her hair appears quite pale in other photos because it was a very cloudy day and snowing by the time we left SMCC.

I'd heard (and seen) reports of some of the DDG dolls having glue in their heads, but this version doesn't - I lucked out, apparently. I purchased her yesterday after several months of stalling; up until yesterday I hadn't seen one with a decent faceup. Waiting paid off; she's lovely!

10th-Jan-2012 10:53 am - Spectra - old time movie star

I found Spectra's fashion pack for.. basically nothing at my local Wal*Mart. Thrilled! I like it much better than the outfit she originally came in. Something about the whole corset-esque top with a tutu just didn't suit her. Now she has a slim dress with a silver netted head-wrap, clear boots and stylized chains. She looks like an old time movie star and it's fantastic.

I had news! My new camera is on its way and should be arriving on the 19th or 20th! Eeee, I can't wait. I'm completely disenchanted with my current camera (having exhausted its capabilities) and can't wait to try my hand at a new one with upgraded functions.

All you reader-types can expect an influx of doll, pet, and holiday pictures! My girlfriend and I are having a guest over for Christmas so I'll definitely be taking pictures of All The Things, as it were. ;) Eee camera camera camera~

My Christmas shopping included books and more books this year. My girlfriend gifted me with Spectra and Skull Shores Ghoulia, the latter having turned up at our local Wal*Mart. I didn't care for her swimsuit so she's been redressed in some ex-Bratz outfits and looks sassy indeed. I love her curly hair!

Kalli picked up Torelai and Skull Shores Abbey, also discovered at our previously unstocked Wal*Mart. I told her Torelai was the hype of the season, right up there with the original Abbey (still very HTF). We're hoping Abbey will show up on Amazon for under $20 next month, a la all good things come to those who wait.

I conquered the evils of Craigslist in order to get a futon frame and mattress. My efforts paid off with an excellent frame and a serviceable mattress; it's basically your standard sort of futon padding. I think it's really comfortable, but it's a little too big for the frame and might work out better as a bed if it's put on the floor. In the meantime it makes a very comfortable nest-sofa that Kalli really likes. We put cushions and small fleece blankets all over it.

Apologies about all the dust that's been collecting on this journal. It'll probably see a resurgence of updates very soon, pending new camera and all. :)

Bonus picture of the futon!

Image shows a light-colored wooden frame with a black futon mattress. It's resting in the 'bed' position with an autumn-themed fleecy blanket and cushion. Three cats are on it - two ginger kitties and one pure black kitty. The ginger kitties belong to Kalli and are named Sunfire and Phoenix. The black kitty is Piper.
23rd-Sep-2011 05:55 pm - wtf Monster High, gtfo

I walked right by the Monster High selection at Wal*Mart several times before I noticed them on Flickr and decided to actually take a look. At first I wasn't really interested (Frankie eh, Cleo eh, Clawdeen .. kind of cute but eh, Draculaura .. cute but not for me) and then I saw Lagoona Blue.

Fuck you, Mattel. :/

She's adorable. I love her face, her fins, everything. Unfortunately Wal*Mart thinks I ought to pay them $30 to own her and some stickers so I said fuck that noise and checked out Ebay.

Slightly better but I think I'll hit up Amazon sales closer to Halloween/Christmas and never mind that $30 crap. I'm not sure Mattel even MAKES anything I'd be willing to pay $30 to own.

End of story, right?

I saw Spectra Vondergeist on Flickr. Now I really hate Mattel AND Flickr. :/ She's definitely on my Christmas wishlist.

Meanwhile, on a slightly more productive side of things, Rikka and I picked up some cloth stock from Wal*Mart and I ordered some Simplicity sewing patterns for Barbie dolls. I've always wanted to make my own Barbie clothes so I picked up the (supposedly) easy patterns and plan to get started as soon as they arrive.

One of the cats fucked up my sewing machine like nobody's business. I need to re-load the entire thing. Again. :|
