Unrelated to my prior entry, but still relevant: I've been rekindling my love of Disney dolls. I used to have quite a few when I was a kid. My mother, sadly, threw out all of my dolls when I was twelve because she thought I was too old for them. I still don't really know how to explain how that made me feel; I asked where they were when I came back from my grandmother's and she said "gone." When I continued to ask about them she became angry. Finally she snapped and said she'd thrown them out because I was too old for those childish things and needed to grow up.
Here I am, 24, and I still love playing with dolls. Fuck the opposition!
Kalli's been gifting me Disney Princess dolls here and there. She got me a Sparkling Princess Belle after some rather awful dentist appointments back in 2010. Belle's my favorite, followed closely by Mulan and Pocahontas. Esmeralda's also a favorite, though not a princess. (She's in her own category, really. I love her. She's my favorite-favorite.)
Anyway, I don't think I'll be getting the dolls I used to have. A couple of them are rather expensive, but that's not really what's stopping me. I've, instead, found versions I like even better. The Disney Store put out some really nice stuff from 2010 onward, so if you're similarly into Disney Princess go check it out! What's not actually on the Disney Store can be found on eBay, and oftentimes for quite reasonable prices (constant vigilance)! There's face-screening comparisons on Flickr, too, and just ... did you know they made a Vanessa doll? Ursula, with Ariel's stolen voice? She's a gorgeous doll. Pretty, but creepy in just the right way. It's a shame she's from a deluxe collector pack. I hope they release her individually within the next few years because that's just neat. I hope they do some Esmeralda dolls too, or at least one. She's not one of their standard princess lineup girls but she's still Disney, and still a wonderful character.
That's all for now, I suppose, but ... yeee, Disney girls!
