Dental issues and the selling of dolls

Trigger warning: not for the dentally-squeamish.

A couple years ago someone (innocently, mind) asked why I didn't 'just sell some dolls' to cover the costs of a dental procedure.

Here's the thing:

I own like.. three 'collector edition' dolls. Besides those three, my collection is considered 'play-line' meaning, generally, they're not worth all that much. I might make roughly what I originally paid for them, but then again I might not. Chances are they'd sit on eBay as '$14.99 + $6.50 shipping' Buy-It-Now listings for weeks.

Never mind the hassle of boxing things up and getting them to the post.

So.. don't bother suggesting it, to me or any other doll enthusiast. True, there's other people out there with 'valuable' dolls, but their owners bought those dolls because they love them, not because they wanted them for resell value.

(And then there's the people who actually did buy them for resell value, which is an entirely different ballpark. Either way, don't judge.)

That said, I had one of my teeth decide to partially crumble away today. x.x It's not the first time this has happened, either! I was terribly unhealthy back in high school. I drank a ton of soda and brushed my teeth.. basically never. I flossed, but brushing's important too. (And the only reason I flossed was because I had a package of floss-picks in my desk drawer. I've maintained that habit, as it's one of the few beneficial things I consistently remember to do.)

I'll probably have to go to the dentist! The cheapest option will be having the tooth pulled. I'm stoked, can you tell? At least extractions aren't exorbitant around here. I might be looking at $80-ish.

Woot.

Needles, drills, and yuck exist in my future. Thanks, high-school-me.

Bleurgh, no, not the dentist. x.x Dental work is never fun, whether it's extractions or fillings or anything else.

And 'why don't you sell some dolls' - that's a load of nonsense, especially if you don't collect dolls that hold their value. You like them and you shouldn't have to sell them unless you (YOU, not other people) see it as absolutely necessary. You'd have to sell a lot of play-line dolls to get $80.

Dang, that sucks. Hope it goes smoothly for you. I also need to make an appointment to see if I can have some impacted wisdom teeth extracted.

I was wondering if you were interested in traditional doll houses? I have always liked them but have been starting to get more interested in these, for the past few weeks...

How long did it take for you to recover?

I have an idea for a story and was thinking about buying a dolls house and making the main characters into dolls (out of clay - because they are anthro ogs lol) for the house. All the dolls houses I've seen though don't fit my idea, so I am looking into how best to make one; wood, papier mache etc.

I have a Sylvanian Families house but that's back at my parent's house. I'm also a sucker for doll house furniture and just miniatures in general. :D

That's okay!

And wow, sorry you went through that, it sounded super rough. :S Good it was over for you in 3 days though. I keep putting making an appointment off, yet I'm paranoid with waking up with an abscess-swollen face! I'm so hopeless! :/

I hate to sound like a creepy stalker or whatever but I have been looking at your doll posts/photos and I have to thank/blame you for making me look at doll photography and fall in love with Blythe! I just made an entry all about it lol ^__^;;
